Polished concrete creates a durable, low-maintenance floor for commercial, industrial, and suitable residential environments. We evaluate the existing slab and the intended use of the space to recommend an appropriate finish and system.
Suitable environments
- Retail and showroom floors
- Office lobbies and corridors
- Warehouses and distribution space
- Restaurants and front-of-house areas
- Suitable residential interiors
Needs it can address
- Reducing ongoing coating maintenance
- A clean, reflective finish that uses the slab itself
- Dust reduction on bare concrete
- Floors that handle steady foot or cart traffic
Appearance & finish
Sheen levels range from a low satin to a high reflective finish, and aggregate exposure can be kept minimal or opened up for a salt-and-pepper or more decorative look. Because polishing works the actual slab, existing patches, cracks, and color variation remain part of the character of the floor.
Substrate & project considerations
Results depend on the slab: its age, hardness, flatness, prior coatings, and repairs all affect the final appearance. Not every slab will polish to the same finish, so we review the concrete in person and may recommend a test area before committing to a sheen level. Eligible RetroPlate polished concrete systems may include manufacturer-backed coverage up to 20 years, subject to manufacturer requirements and approval.
How we approach it
- 01
Evaluate the slab
We review hardness, existing coatings, cracks, and how the floor will be used.
- 02
Grind and densify
Progressive grinding refines the surface, and densifier hardens the paste.
- 03
Polish and protect
We polish to the agreed sheen and apply a guard where appropriate.
Questions
Can any concrete floor be polished?
Many slabs can, but condition matters. Soft concrete, heavy damage, or certain prior coatings can limit the result. A site evaluation tells us what is realistic.
How is polished concrete maintained?
Typically with routine dust mopping and neutral cleaners. We'll provide maintenance guidance specific to the system installed.
